“It’s a Battle” – Pastor Greg Odell | Friday, 5th June ’26

Peter opened the meeting with a recent story of how he had used the new Heart tract. The water company was overcharging Peter for water due to a suspected water leak, and an insurance representative called ‘Geoff’ visited him. Geoff investigated the water situation and assured Peter that he would not have to pay the large bill – the water issue could be resolved.

Their conversation turned to spiritual matters, and Peter gave Geoff a heart tract and invited him to put his trust in Christ, which he gladly did!

Peter also talked about a message that he shared in Belgium. The main point: do not let the fire go out. The message followed the theme of the popular chorus Shine Jesus Shine. Fire needs oxygen, praise fuels the fire of the Spirit.

Gary and the Worship Unlimited lead the worship which lead into a time of prayer ministry as the Holy Spirit started touching many attending.

Then Peter introduced Greg Odell. Greg is a pastor from South Africa, although he has supported Arsenal for 36 years. He started a church six years ago with five people, and it has grown massively. If you bring your sacrifice to God, He will blow on it and increase it.

Greg’s testimony: He grew up a Methodist and went to church every Sunday. At age seven, he asked his mother if he could stay home on Sundays. His mother said, “No!” – good parenting! His sister introduced him to a charismatic prayer meeting, at which he came to faith. When he prayed the sinner’s prayer, a heaviness lifted off him. Since then, he has felt the presence of God every day of his life.

Through his Christian journey, he has come through challenging times and opposition. Even Christ learned obedience through what He suffered (Hebrews 5:8).

Problems came because he did not understand his spiritual identity – that he is a spirit in a body. The Holy Spirit talks to our human spirit, and so does the accuser. Greg had problems with his thought life before he understood this.

He learned that the devil was defeated on the cross, and we do not have to make agreements with the devil. He is under the feet of those who are in Christ.

Greg stated that this is the great battle of every Christian’s life, and we desperately need the help of the Holy Spirit. Reinhard Bonnke once pointed out that a TV is no use if it is not plugged into the mains.

A time of prayer ministry followed, with many responding to the invitation to come forward.
